Digital tools in education are seen as counterparts of books, and the value is seen in technology as such. In which ways could teachers adopt digitalization so that it creates value from content point of view?
The pedagogics of education in Finland have relied on physical books since its beginning. As the world has quickly turned digital, the logical solution has been to digitalize learning materials at the same time. However, if teaching methods do not evolve at the same pace with the digital revolution, all electronic materials seem to be digitalized versions of books and the value is in technology as such, which is demotivational for everybody.
As the value of digitalization is unrivalled in many walks of life, it might be very useful also in the education field if implemented properly. How to bring meaning for digitalization by providing teachers ways to match their pedagogics with digital tools, not only as electronic counterparts for books? What kind of role does individual teacher play in developing digitalization for Finnish schools in a way that is actually exciting?
